Personnel who are required to use and specify the use of leaning ladders or step ladders at work. This may include stage lighting riggers, electricians, window cleaners, ceiling fitters, building maintenance operatives, plasterers, or any other person using such equipment as part of their work.

Prerequisites

Medically fit and healthy (if unsure, please contact us)
The minimum age of candidates is 18 years
Knowledge of the work tasks due to be undertaken is an advantage

Course Content

  • This is a practical course covering:
  • Legal requirements:
    • The Work at Height Regulations 2005
    • Workplace Regulations
    • Management Regulations
    • CE marking
    • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Regulations
  • The correct choice of equipment related to the work to be undertaken Risk assessments
  • Introduction to equipment to be used:
    • Quality assurance (product marking, record keeping, certificates of conformity, disposal of failed items)
    • Equipment inspection (inspection techniques, failure criteria, common failures, obsolescence, care, maintenance and storage)
  • Types of ladders
  • Appropriate methods of use and limitations of ladders
  • Practical sessions involving selection of equipment and completion of real work tasks

Assessment

The course assessment is by short written test and continuous practical assessment by Lyon staff.

Certification

A certificate of attendance and test and ID card record of training will be issued to successful candidates. Certificate valid for three years from date of assessment.
