Anybody seeking training to work safely at height, no previous experience is required.

Qualification

A level 1 Rope Access Technician is able to perform a range of rope access tasks under the supervision of a Level 3 Safety Supervisor.

IRATA Level 1 Training Courses

Prerequisites

No previous training or experience is required. 

The minimum age of candidates is 18 years of age on the first day of training. 

Candidates should be physically fit and free from any disability or medical condition that may prevent them from working safely at height. (If unsure please contact us for more information) 

Any candidate that has previously been issued an IRATA logbook MUST have their logbook prior to the commencement of the training course. If the logbook has been lost a replacement must be obtained from IRATA before the course starts. Photo ID such as a drivers' licence or passport is also required for the assessment. 

Course Content

  • Fitting and function of all personal equipment used in rope access. 
  • Strengths and limitations of equipment, inspection, documentation, maintenance of equipment, and use of anchors. 
  • Descending and ascending ropes using two independent systems. 
  • A range of rope manoeuvres such as - deviations, re-anchors, passing knots, and rope to rope transfers. 
  • Basic hauling and lowering systems. 
  • Aid climbing and fall arrest techniques. 
  • Basic rescue techniques. 
  • Introduction to knots and rigging of ropes. 
  • Relevant legislation and theoretical training. 

Assessment

1 day independent practical and theoretical assessment.

Certification

Upon successful completion the candidate will receive an internationally recognised certificate of competence in rope access, IRATA ID card, and IRATA logbook. 

All IRATA qualifications should be upgraded or renewed within three years of the date of the assessment.

 Revalidation consists of a full assessment at the required level. If revalidation training and successful assessment are completed in the 180-day period prior to the expiry of a current certificate, a new certificate shall be issued with an expiry date three years from the date of expiry of the previous certificate.
