This RoSPA approved course provides emergency services personnel with the knowledge andskills to use work restraint, work positioning and fall arrest systems. The course includes both
practical and theoretical training and gives an introduction to workplace regulations, risk assessment, equipment inspection and correct selection and application of work at height equipment. Use of fall arrest lanyards, mobile fall arrestor devices and use of the Petzl I’D and line for work restraint, assisted return and belaying/life-lining is also covered.

Prerequisites

Medically fit and healthy (if unsure, please contact us) The minimum age of candidates is 18 years

Course Content

This is a practical course covering:

  • Legislation, Work at Height Regulations 2005, Risk Assessments, Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER)
  • Types of protection against falls from a height
  • Types of access using Personal Fall Protection Equipment
  • Selection and types of Personal Fall Protection Equipment for fall arrest
  • Care, maintenance, inspection and disposal of Personal Fall Protection Equipment Pre use checks
  • Fitting and adjustment of Personal Fall Protection Equipment before climbing Climbing and moving around structures using fall arrest lanyards
  • Use of mobile fall arresters
  • Use of work positioning lanyards
  • Horizontal progression
  • Use of the Petzl I’D and line for work restraint, assisted return and belaying/life-lining Rescue and considerations for incidents involving harness suspension

Assessment

The course assessment is by short written test and continuous practical assessment by Lyon staff.

Certification

A certificate of attendance and test and ID card record of training will be issued to successful candidates. Certificate valid for three years from date of assessment.
