PPE Inspection – RoSPA Approved Competent Person Certificate for the Adventure Activities Sector

Duration - 4 Days :: Course Cost - £620 plus VAT

Current UK regulations, including the Activity Centres Act 1995, Work at Height (Amendment) Regulations 2007 and the Lifting Operations Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998, require that work at height equipment is thoroughly examined at regular intervals by a ‘Competent Person’.

This RoSPA approved course has been designed for inspectors and those responsible for the use of, examination and maintenance of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including personal fall protection equipment, buoyancy aids and water helmets used for adventure activities such as climbing, mountaineering, caving, gorge scrambling and coasteering.

Technical advisors, safety managers, independent outdoor education providers, outdoor education centre staff, mountain rescue equipment officers and those responsible for equipment stores will all benefit from this course.  Members of the Association of Mountaineering Instructors or Mountain Training Association will earn one CPD point by attending this course.

The course introduces new techniques and develops candidates’ current knowledge of how to systematically manage and inspect adventure activities PPE throughout its lifetime.

The programme includes current legislation requirements and equipment standards, selection, identification, maintenance and storage of equipment; formal thorough examinations of equipment and the production of appropriate examination regimes and reports.  Also included are repair and disposal procedures plus the opportunity to view and analyse destructive tests on damaged items of PPE.

Topics are covered using a combination of hands-on product inspection training, destructive testing demonstrations, damage and wear analysis and classroom presentations.

Following successful completion of a formal written and practical assessment and verification by an external moderator, candidates will receive a Lyon Equipment ‘Competent Person’ certificate authorising them to undertake thorough examinations of the equipment verified during the course.  Candidates will also receive an ID card record of training, valid for three years.

To gain maximum benefit from this course, applicants should have pre-course experience in the use of a range of Personal Fall Protection Equipment.  Our 1 day PPE inspection course provides an introduction for those with less experience.
