New Courses And New Initiatives For 2014
2013 was a busy year for the Lyon Equipment Training Centre as more and more organisations and individuals recognised that Lyon is the source for definitive training and assessment for work at height and rescue. Indeed, we can truly say that our training courses have gained international renown as we delivered training in Singapore, Greece and Sweden in addition to those delivered across the UK and at our own purpose-built training centre in Cumbria.
Lyon Equipment Work and Rescue has launched a number of new training initiatives for 2014 including exciting collaborations with leading tree care company, Treepartner, and HFR Solutions CIC, a controlled company of Humberside Fire Authority. Together with these initiatives, we have also launched a number of new training courses that build on and expand our portfolio of general and sector-specific courses.
First off, after much deliberation, we have decided to introduce a 2-day refresher and recertification course for our industry-leading, RoSPA approved, PPE Inspection Competent Person courses for industry and the adventure activities sector. Where previously individuals wishing to re-certify had to attend the full 4-day course again, we can now offer a shorter, intensive course to those who are within the three year validation period of their previous certificate. Certain pre-requisites apply for full eligibility to this course; however we are confident that it will be a welcome and valuable addition.
Next up, Mark Davies, our PPE Inspection and adventure activity specialist, has developed two new courses for those whose work involves the construction, operation and/or maintenance of artificial structures such as high ropes courses and climbing walls. A single day awareness course and a 3-day technician course are offered, with the 3 day course programme including rescue techniques for these structures.
Our successful involvement with the entertainment industry continues and we are intending to run an increased number of our Work at Height Rescue for Riggers and Stage Workers courses during 2014. This 'follow on' course has been run both at our Tebay Training Facility and off-site, where it has allowed trainees to address rescue issues relating directly to their venue.
In 2013 we teamed up with leading tree care training company, Treepartner, to jointly develop a range of courses for those involved in arboriculture and ground work. Individuals attending these courses will benefit from the combined skills and knowledge of two industry leading specialists, brought together in one highly effective package. The first of these collaborative courses was launched in January, with more in the pipeline.
Lyon has also recently entered into a partnership agreement with HFR Solutions CIC on Humberside. HFR Solutions is a controlled company of Humberside Fire Authority and is the first of its kind to deliver fire, rescue and high quality health and safety training with expert industry knowledge and experience. The company is very unique with any profits being put straight back into the community to fund safety initiatives. Going forward, Lyon Equipment will be assisting HFR Solutions with the delivery and external validation of a number of height-related courses including wind turbine work at height and rescue, rope rescue and industrial rope access.
Finally, with a growing number of Fire and Rescue Services approaching the 3-year point following their initial rope rescue training with Lyon Equipment, we have introduced a 3-day update and revalidation course for rope rescue supervisors and instructors.
We are also offering an evaluation / external validation service for fire service rope rescue teams.
