The Petzl I'D

Petzl’s ever popular I'D is used as a personal descender and increasingly as an element of lowering and hauling systems used for casualty evacuation. Rescue technicians are by nature innovative in the applications an item may be used in and questioning about its performance.

For these users Petzl and their UK distributors Lyon Equipment Ltd have produced additional technical information to help them get the best out of the I'D.
Key news is that Petzl clearly confirm that it can be used in more challenging applications than just as a device for personal use, answering once and for all questions such as:

Can the I'D be used in stretcher rescues?
Yes!  As the technical info says it can be used for LOADS of up to 250Kg in appropriate systems.

Can it be used as a belay device for more than one person loads?

Tests have shown that even with Fall Factors of up to 0.3 with loads of 250Kg can be tolerated by the I'D and still allow the device to function to allow recovery of the load.
