Technical Symposium 2004The evening meal at Rheged Discovery Centre near Penrith was a great opportunity to discuss the day’s events, network with other companies as well as sample a few local beers in the bar.
On Thursday 9th September, Rheged Discovery Centre was the venue for the main lectures and welcomed 130 delegates and speakers for what was for all attending a useful and informative day opening eyes to new and recent research.
The lectures included the following
Martin Holden, HM Inspector of Health & Safety Construction corporate Topic Group - Update on lanyard research.
Philipe Beal, Beal Ropes - Nylon ropes - temperature transitions and humidity effects.
Paul Seddon OBE, Consultant for Euronorms - Making sense of safety factors in fall protection standards.
Peter Popall, Technical Director, Petzl - Design of lanyards.
Didier Durand, Sales Manager, Peguet. (Maillon Rapides) - Manufacture of screw link connectors.
Malcolm James, M J Consultancy - Reporting of accident statistics.
Dave Riches BSc (Hons), Consulting Safety Engineer, Safety Squared - Effectiveness of ladder safety hoops and vertical rigid rails.
Open forum – HSE in the chair.
One of the themes that came from the lectures is that the deceleration (g-force) is more important than the impact force when looking at falling persons.
