Safety Management: Working at Height with Personal Fall Protection Equipment (course code LT30)

Who is this course for?
This course is designed to provide Safety Managers with core knowledge on the limitations, use and care of fall protection and, in particular, fall arrest equipment.  The course is a mix of theoretical and practical sessions with demonstrations of equipment use and destructive testing.

Legal requirements:
•    Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Regulations
•    CE marking
•    Work at Height Regulations
•    Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations (LOLER)
Types of protection and selection of equipment against falls from a height, including:
•    Fall arrest
•    Work positioning
•    Restraint
•    Rope access
Selection of appropriate anchors
Selection and types of work at height harnesses, including:
•    Comfort tests
•    Correct fitting and adjustment
•    Correct use of attachment points
Planning to avoid a fall
Minimising the consequences of a fall:
•    Fall factors
•    Fall arrest clearance
•    Use of harnesses in mobile elevated work platforms (MEWPs)
Compatibility of fall arrest equipment
Use of fall arrest lanyards:
•    Types of lanyard and their correct use
•    How to spot incorrect use
•    Inspection regime
Correct use of retractable fall arrest devices including dynamic drop tests
Common failure modes of fall arrest equipment including destructive tests of webbing products
Rescue considerations:
•    Post fall recovery including casualty care
•    Harness suspension incidents
Practical climbing session
Update on current research
