Expedition Award Scheme

Last year’s Award Scheme is now closed. Thanks to all of you who applied. We are pleased to announce that we supported 9 expeditions last year and we look forward to hearing how they faired.

The 2011 Award Scheme is now open for applications. The closing date for applications is 15th December 2011.

Please read on for more information….

Given our technical expertise and the high level of exposure the brands we distribute enjoy, it’s not surprising we are inundated with requests from many quarters for sponsorship.  In fact, hardly a day goes by without someone contacting us to tell us about their plans to scale the highest mountains or to trek the largest continent or to explore the deepest cave.

Some time ago now, we decided to create the Lyon Expedition Award scheme.  We felt this would be the fairest way to ensure everyone requesting sponsorship would be “given a fair hearing”. So, for more details about how your expedition could be supported by our award scheme and what we would like in return, read on.

“Arrived at the site of base camp in the rain and set up the tents. The porters departed for Jakhol and we could get our first glimpses of the peaks around us through the cloud.”

“Two members of the team were awarded Julbo sunglasses as part of the Lyon Award. They found the glasses to be an ergonomic and comfortable fit with supreme UV protection. So much so, that they continued to wear the glasses in Delhi after demodularising them.”

Abseiling down the last pitch

Abseiling down the last pitch in X3.

“With the plan to de-rig that afternoon, Chad decided it would be worth one more push to see what was down the opposite slope of the snow plug. He abseiled down, dragging the rope out of the hole in the ice and threw it down the other side before descending out of sight. Sitting on that snow plug just for the 15 minutes he was down was a pretty cold experience and I was just on the verge of prussiking up & down the pitch above me to keep warm when I saw his light returning.”
