Where did Lyon Equipment come from?

Back in 1965, Ben Lyon, aided by engineer brother Graham, started making caving ladders. The name 'Lyon Ladders' was registered in 1973.

In the same year Ben, with Mike Meredith, took a party of cavers to France, and called in on Fernand Petzl's 3-man workshop. Mike started imports to the UK, handing this on to Ben's business in 1974, making 'Lyon' the first overseas Petzl distributor.

The next move was to change our name to Lyon Equipment.

Over the years more leading Brands have been added to our portfolio. Recruiting staff of exceptional quality has allowed us to develop an unrivalled range of gear and techniques for tackling every type of play, work and rescue at height - and other places too!

Today, with even wider scope to our activities, you may find yourself talking, under the banner of Lyon Equipment Limited, to Lyon (Manufacturing), Lyon (Outdoors), Lyon (Work & Rescue), Lyon (Training) or Lyon (Logistics)...

...and 40 years on we still make caving ladders!

We have a many-talented staff of over 70, with an annual turnover in excess of £13 million.

WEEE Regulations.

Did you know that in 2008 the UK only recycled 2.8% of all batteries? By 2016 the UK will need to be recycling 45% of batteries if we are to meet EU targets.

What should I do with my old electrical equipment and/or batteries?
Please do NOT put your old electrical items or batteries in with your general household waste. They may contain chemicals such as mercury, cadmium and lead which are  best kept out of landfill.

Legislation has come in in recent years (Waste Electrical & Electronic Equipment  Regulation -known as the WEEE Regs  -and The Waste Batteries and Accumulators Regulations 2009 ) to encourage the disposal of electrical items and batteries in an environmentally friendly way.

What will it cost you as a consumer to recycle your items?
Nothing ; your retailer may offer a take back service or you may be able to dispose of your old electrical items and batteries at your local civic amenities site.

Under the regulations the consumer cannot be charged for the recycling or disposal costs, those cost are picked up by the producers, companies such as Lyon Equipment Ltd.
