Back in 2002 Andy made a 15 day winter ascent of the Lafialle route on the west face of the Dru, a 1000 metre pillar in the French Alps, a climb that pushed him and his partner to their limits and was featured in the award wining film “Cold haul”.

Andy is also well known for his expeditions to Patagonia, all of which have taken place during the winter season, a season in which very few have ever ventured or returned from in one piece!

Closer to home, Andy’s favourite highlights are a winter ascent of 'Great Gully' on Craig yr Ysfa, North Wales;

“Climbed without tools or axes, only a pair of nut tools and the knees of my fleecy trousers. We finished in the dark and never knew if we’d make it to the top…until we did.”

Andy’s first ascents?

“Too many to list here, actually none, I’m a bit lazy really, I like my climbing on a plate.” We all await his new book with anticipation!
